The National ICT Innovation and Integration Centre

Welcome to the website of the National ICT Innovation and Integration Centre (NI3C). The Centre undertakes research, develops and promotes new and emerging technologies for integration in education.
It offers capacity building on higher levels of ICT integration in Education; and keenly participates in advising Ministry of Education's Senior Management on innovations in education and training.
The Centre’s mandate also includes support on IT-related issues through a helpdesk (monitored both on phone and through this website).
ICT-Training
The centre offers a variety of ICT training programmes to teachers and education managers to stimulate ICT integration in education and training.
The trainings are held in any of our state-of-the-art computer laboratories under the facilitation of well experienced trainers in pedagogy and ICT integration.
Helpdesk
The Centre provides support for schools in matters of ICT and related issues.

Solar Powered Laptop for School-Age Children

According to Jubilee Government Manifesto, above featured as one of the priority actions aimed at supporting education in its mandate to prepare Kenyans meet requirements of middle income knowledge-based society. As such, we the ICT Champions in Education sector have a devine moment to provide critical knowledge and experience to guide in design, development and implementation of an appropriate solution or array of solutions for entire country along all levels of education when school-aged "child" can be found. "Child" is in the context of definitions in the constitution.
ICT Integration Committee have explored two approaches:
- Devices issued and belonging to the pupils (i.e. Kids take devices home similar to text books)
- Devices belongs to schools (and hence issued to pupils for use in lesson delivery, and collected back for use by other cohorts of students in other grades)
Internship Vacancies

NI3C seeks to give students opportunity to gain industry skills through our internship programme. We are currently looking for 2 ICT Interns.
Qualifications
- Must be a university student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, IT or related course.
- Must be in either third or fourth year of their studies.
- Must be proficient in atleast one programming language and MSSQL database.
- Should understand basic ICT security and networks.
- Must be available for a period of 3 months.

NI3C host's System Developers Forum

NI3C hosted a 2-day System Developers Forum on 16-17 November 2012. The target group was the ICT officers in the Education institutions (TSC, KNEC, MoE) and interested university students. We had a total number of 30 developers sharing knowledge on ASP.NET and MS-SQL platforms. The facilitators were Jente Roseels and Koen Goovarts from Erasmus University in Brussels, Belgium, who are currently on internship at the Centre.
St. Joseph Girls -Kibwezi Visit

Today we are hosting 49 students and two teachers from St. Joseph Girls -Kibwezi. According to their teacher, Mr. Nzioki, who is also the ICT champion Kibwezi constituency, the students visit was to enlighten them on ICT integration in education and the innovation that can help them as students.

School Guidelines for Procurement of ICT Tools

The Ministry invites stakeholders to give input on current specifications used in the procurement of ICT tools in schools citing areas for improvement, omission or inclusion. This is in recognition that ICT is dynamic and requires creative and innovative groups to quickly identify and share potential of such tools in teaching and learning. In order to facilitate Kenya's institutions on acquisition and identification of ICT tools, NI3C invites comments to shape the school's ICT programmes.
